Pilot Ishime pens are excellent fountain pens given rave reviews by fountain pen enthusiasts for their transparent look, elegant colors, and smooth writing ability. The Ishime is a hand-lacquered fountain pen with a 14kt gold nib. The word “Ishime” roughly translates to “stone path”, referring to the design on the cap and barrel, which is hand-drawn into its wet lacquer. This Maki-e technique is called “Kawarinuri", meaning “unique painting”. Urushi, Japanese lacquer, is textured like stones on the Ishime's deep blue body.
