Identifying the S.T. Dupont Ligne 1 Lighter

The Ligne 1 is one of S.T. Dupont’s earliest gas lighter models, first introduced in the 1950s. These iconic pieces are recognized for their clean geometric lines, slim profile, and signature soft flame.

Key Features:

-Refill Port: Covered refill screw located on the bottom.

-Ignition: Manual flint ignition system.

-Cap Mechanism: Hinged lid with internal components exposed when open.

Model Variants:

There are two primary sizes of the Ligne 1: Tall (Ligne 1 Grand) and Small (Ligne 1 Petit). Both sizes are nearly identical in design but vary in overall dimensions.

Ligne 1 Tall (Grand)

-Approximate size: 59.6mm x 35.6mm x 13.5mm

-Flame mechanism: May be either BS or BR

-Flame mechanism: May be either BS or BR

BS vs. BR Models

-BS – Briquet Standard:
This version does not include a flame adjustment wheel. Under the cap, you’ll find a small shut-off valve that cuts off gas flow when the lid is closed.

-BR – Briquet Réglable:
Features a flame adjustment wheel under the cap, allowing for manual height control of the flame. These models tend to be slightly more desirable for collectors due to their precision.

How to Identify Yours

Flip the lighter over:

  • Look for a single recessed refill screw.

  • Examine the underside of the lid. If there is a small wheel near the gas jet—it's a BR model. If there’s no wheel, but a small valve instead—it's a BS model.
