Cleto Munari, the modernist designer from Vicenza, Italy, has created The Book of the 5 Pens, a distinctive collection of writing instruments. Munari invited four international architects to join him in designing pens dedicated to five Nobel Prize laureates in Literature. Munari’s pen is in honor of Nigerian writer Wole Soyinka. Japan’s Toyo Ito designed his pen in memory of Egyptian author Nagib Mahfouz. Italy’s Alessandro Mendini created a pen for American author Toni Morisson. Portugal’s Álvaro Siza Vieira designed his pen for Portuguese author José Saramago. Spanish architect Oscar Tusquets Blanca had Canadian author Saul Bellow as his inspiration.
