The Line 1 lighters come in 3 varieties known as the BR (briquet reglable) and the BS (briquet standard) and the rarer petrol models. The major difference between the BS and BR varients is the ability to adjust the flame. The BR models include a regulator wheel to adjust and control the flame size. The BS model has a shut of valve in place of the regulator wheel. Petrol models are adjustable by extending the size of the wick.

Line 2 lighters are equipped with their refill valve underneath the lighter, indicated with an arrow. Simple turn towards the (+) to increase the flame and towards the (-) to decrease the flame. While the Line 2 was originally released with a single soft flame, the new additions have been adorned with a dual flame mechanism. This dual flame mechanism is ideal for afficianados who prefer a fast and even ignition of their cigars.

Flame Mechanism

The Line 2 lighter features a robust and reliable flint ignition system. It produces a soft, adjustable flame suitable for lighting cigars, cigarettes, or other items. While the original models produced a single flame, all modern Line 2 lighters are equipped with a dual flame burner. This flame is designed with cigar aficionados in mind, creating a wide flame to evenly toast and ignite your cigar.

While the ignition mechanism remains largely the same for the Line 1 collection, these lighters were only produced with a single flame mechansim. This makes Them an ideal companion for cigar and cigarette smokers alike.

Depending on the age of your model, the flame type can be modified by your local service center. Most lighters can be adjusted to either a single flame, a dual flame or even a pipe flame burner.

Price Point

Naturally, these distinctions trickle down to pricing. The Line 2, with its additional features and heftier build, often commands a higher price compared to the Line 1. However, both represent investments in quality craftsmanship and timeless elegance.

Which One to Choose?

Ultimately, the choice between S.T. Dupont Ligne 1 and Ligne 2 lighters boils down to personal preference. Are you inclined towards the sleekness of the Line 2 and enhanced functionality of the Ligne 2, or the vintage appeal of the Line 1?
